Clubs and Activities

Art Club

Meeting times: Exclusively offered in the fall-after school until 5:30 p.m. 

This club has been formed to introduce arts and crafts from around the world as well as independent art projects. It allows 6th, 7th, and 8th graders to participate in extracurricular activities and exposes them to a variety of creative media. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Ms. Sitko.

Battle Of The Books

Meeting times: Start in Late October/Mid November

Battle of the Books, or BOB, is a competition against the other D300 middle schools. BOB encourages students to read a variety of different books that they might have not chosen on their own. Battle of the Books can have as many students on the team but at the end, each battle will consist of 5 team members that participate at each meet to demonstrate the knowledge of the books they have read. Now we are able to switch off for each meet to allow everyone at least one chance to participate in a ‘battle’. Battle of the Books is open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. The battles are held during the school day taking turns at each school with a final battle in May for the top two schools with the most points.

Beta Club

Meeting times: One-two times per month

The National Junior Beta Club recognizes outstanding achievement, promotes character and social responsibility, encourages service involvement in school and community, fosters leadership skills, and provides settings for your child to develop interpersonal relationship skills through volunteering in school and the community. Membership into the AMS Beta Club is by invitation only and is based upon teacher recommendations.

Chess and Photo Club

Meeting times: TBD

Open to all students who are interested in playing chess or learning about photography.

Homework Club

Sponsor: Lisa Vehrs – Lisa.Vehrs@d300.org

Meeting times: Monday – Thursday afternoons in the media center from 3:45 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Open to all students that would like to work on homework after school in a quiet setting. Students are expected to come prepared with homework and supplies and follow the same expectations in the classroom (work quietly, respect others).

Intramural Opportunities

Volleyball and Basketball Intramurals will be available throughout the school year. Students will practice basic skills through drills, activities and games.

7th Grade Students: Girls and Boys Basketball
8th Grade Students: Girls and Boys Basketball

Newspaper

Meeting times: Twice per month after school until 4:30. Specific dates will be determined at the beginning of the year, check announcements. 

Open to all students who have a desire to contribute to our monthly school newspaper. We cover various topics related to our school, community, and the world. Our student staff brainstorms the ideas for our articles and is responsible for writing, editing, and photographing content. 

Science Club

Meeting times: About once a month in Mr. Sanford's room (221)

Open to students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. Events/Activities include: Stream Monitoring, Escape Rooms, Holiday Labs, STEM Activities, Science Fair, Dissections, Engineering Competitions, and Science Trivia Bowl. No materials or experience required.

Student Council

Meeting times: Second Wednesday of each month, beginning 9/14. Listen to announcements for dates. 

Algonquin Middle School's Student Council is made up of a cohesive group of dynamic, enthusiastic and committed students who care about AMS.  It is open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Student Council helps plan, organize, and run after-school events, like school dances. They help raise school spirit through dress-up theme days and other activities. Student Council members also participate in various fundraisers throughout the school year.Open to all levels of experience.
